Why We Chose the Travel Life

It all begins with an idea.

Some choices in life feel monumental, like standing at the edge of a cliff before a leap of faith. For our family, choosing the travel life was one of those moments. After years of dreaming, planning, and imagining, we finally made the decision to trade the predictable for the unknown and embrace the adventure waiting on the open road.

Leaving the Familiar Behind
Our journey began after Drew retired from the Coast Guard following 20 years of service. Those two decades were filled with structure, dedication, and service to our country, but they also left us craving freedom. We had spent so much of our lives tied to a schedule, to one place, to routine. As Drew transitioned out of the military, we asked ourselves: What do we want our lives to look like?

For us, the answer wasn’t in a bigger house or more possessions—it was in experiences. It was in showing our children the world, creating memories that last a lifetime, and living a life where every day could be an adventure.

The Spark of Adventure
Travel has always been a part of who we are. From family road trips to exploring new places whenever we could, the desire to see more was always there. But it wasn’t until we really thought about how fleeting time is—especially with kids—that we realized we didn’t want to wait any longer.

Ethan is growing into a young man, Rowan has a passion for music and creativity, and Phoebe’s boundless curiosity makes every day feel exciting. We wanted to give them the gift of seeing the world firsthand, of growing up surrounded by nature, and of learning lessons no classroom could teach.

Why We Chose an RV
The RV lifestyle was the perfect fit for our family. It gave us the flexibility to travel while still having the comforts of home. Our Cyclone fifth wheel became more than just a vehicle—it became our sanctuary, our classroom, and our living room, all rolled into one. We love that our home can take us anywhere, from mountain trails to coastal beaches, and everywhere in between.

What We’ve Gained
Since embarking on this journey, we’ve learned so much—not just about the places we’ve visited, but about ourselves. We’ve learned to live with less, to appreciate simplicity, and to prioritize what truly matters: time together as a family.

Sure, life on the road has its challenges. There are days when things break, when the kids are restless, or when we feel the weight of uncertainty. But those moments are far outweighed by the joy of watching a sunrise over a quiet campground, hiking a trail we never knew existed, or sitting around a campfire under the stars.

What’s Next
We don’t have all the answers, and that’s the beauty of this lifestyle. Every day is a chance to explore, learn, and grow. We’re so excited to share our journey with you—whether it’s tips for RV living, our favorite destinations, or simply stories from life on the road.

If you’ve ever dreamed of leaving the ordinary behind and embracing adventure, we’re here to tell you: it’s possible. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it.

Here’s to the road ahead, the memories waiting to be made, and the adventures still to come.
